About Weldon Herefords
Proudly Rooted in Texas Cow Country
As a six-generation registered horned Hereford cattle producer, Weldon Herefords continues a long-standing tradition of quality breeding and honest ranching. Our family-owned operation is dedicated to raising Herefords with sound structure, dependable performance, and the calm temperament ranchers trust. From our pastures to yours, every animal reflects the values and commitment our family has carried for generations.
Our Brand, Our Legacy
What began as a modest ranch on the Brazos River more than 100 years ago, has grown into a timeless legacy carried forward by the Weldon family.
It began when Thomas Fielder Weldon established a small ranch in Fortune Bend and registered the XAV brand in 1881, marking the start of a tradition built on integrity and devotion to ranching. By 1900, John Kennedy Weldon introduced the Running W brand in Palo Pinto County, a symbol that quickly came to represent the quality and pride behind every animal we raise. Just a year later, the foundation of Weldon Herefords was set with the establishment of our first herd of registered Herefords.
Today, the Running W Slash isn’t just a brand; it’s a promise. A promise that every registered horned Hereford we produce reflects generations of family values, careful stewardship, and a relentless commitment to excellence. From the earliest days to the present, our focus has remained the same: raising cattle that perform on the ranch, thrive in the field, and carry forward the Weldon legacy with strength and reliability.
At Weldon Herefords, our brand tells our story, and every animal we raise continues to write the next chapter.

Our Breeding Program
At Weldon Herefords, our breeding program is built on careful selection, modern techniques, and hands-on management. We start with top-quality cows chosen for their structure, fertility, and temperament. To strengthen our herd and enhance key traits, we utilize artificial insemination (AI) with proven sires, allowing us to improve genetics for growth, structural soundness, and overall performance.
Our program combines family tradition with modern technology, ensuring every registered horned Hereford we raise meets the high standards our customers expect. From daily care to careful breeding decisions, our goal is simple: produce cattle that are strong, reliable, and built to perform.
